Smart Meters to be Voluntary
DECC have confirmed that it will be voluntary rather than compulsory for households to have a smart energy meter fitted. Energy suppliers will continue to be required to rollout meters by 2019. Government loses Solar FITs appeal
The Government has lost its appeal over the solar Feed-in Tariff cuts. Online Game reveals customers ’misunderstand how to save energy’

Wave farm projects announced
French engineering giant Alstom and Scottish energy developer SSE Renewables have announced plans for the world’s largest wave farm off the coast of Orkney. Green energy company Ecotricity has also unveiled plans to install 200 wave power devices off the UK coast. (Click title to read full text)

Tougher 30% EU emissions cuts would save money in the medium to long term
A European commission report leaked to the Guardian concludes that if the EU were to set higher emissions-cutting goals now, by increasing its current target of a 20% cut by 2020 to a 25% or a 30% cut, it would save money in the medium and long term. FiTs cuts to go ahead as planned after House of Commons debate
Opposition proposals to overturn the cut-off date of 12 December for solar PV feed-in-tariffs has been defeated in a House of Commons debate by 72 votes. Earlier this month FoE threatened to sue if the changes went ahead and a recent REA survey claimed 11,000 jobs could be lost and 95 percent of social housing tenants who were expecting panels could miss out.
