Government loses Solar FITs appeal
The Government has lost its appeal over the solar Feed-in Tariff cuts. This should mean that DECC’s contingency plan announced on last week, will come into play, whereby the reduced solar Feed-in Tariff (FiT) rate of 21p/kWh will be introduced from 1 April 2012 onwards for new solar PV installations with an eligibility date on or after 3 March 2012. Online Game reveals customers ’misunderstand how to save energy’

Wave farm projects announced

DECC clarifies contingency plan over FiT’s appeal ruling (plus recent FiTs timeline)

Tougher 30% EU emissions cuts would save money in the medium to long term
A European commission report leaked to the Guardian concludes that if the EU were to set higher emissions-cutting goals now, by increasing its current target of a 20% cut by 2020 to a 25% or a 30% cut, it would save money in the medium and long term. The saving in fuel costs alone from a 25% cut would be €20bn a year. (Click title to read full text)

Smart meters - Commons briefing

FiTs cuts to go ahead as planned after House of Commons debate
Opposition proposals to overturn the cut-off date of 12 December for solar PV feed-in-tariffs has been defeated in a House of Commons debate by 72 votes. Earlier this month FoE threatened to sue if the changes went ahead and a recent REA survey claimed 11,000 jobs could be lost and 95 percent of social housing tenants who were expecting panels could miss out.
