Full description of seminar:
Planned sessions focus on early trends that have emerged from the work undertaken thus far in both the domestic and business smart meter rollout, as well as the financial and logistical challenges that remain in meeting the Government’s 2019 implementation targets, which include gaining investor and consumer confidence in the technology, along with creating a supply chain and workforce capable of delivering such an ambitious programme.

As concerns continue over consumer privacy, with a number of commentators, including leading EU watchdog the European Data Protection Supervisor claiming that smart meters present a ‘considerable risk’ to consumers across Europe, further sessions will go on to consider the security and privacy issues surrounding the UK’s rollout.

Including keynote presentations from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, topics for discussion include:

The outlook for the smart meter rollout in the UK and the progress to date in early installations;
The next steps for delivery for the rollout and alleviating industry concerns regarding the ambitious programme;
The ‘foundation stage’: the challenges faced by industry, ensuring readiness and engaging consumers in the rollout;
The establishment of DataCommsCo and its eventual role in managing and supporting data during the rollout; and
Looking towards the 2019 completion date, the long term challenges for the rollout and protecting the security of the consumer;
